The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 130

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 11:1-4 (part 1)
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” So, He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.”

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
One of my favorite passages in all of scripture is the ‘Disciples Prayer’, better known in Christian gatherings as the Lord’s Prayer. It matters very little of how you title these words that teach us to pray effectively. What does matter is that only the true children of God can call God their Father. If you are not saved, you are of your father the devil just as the LORD Jesus speaks to the religious folks in John 8.

Jesus has a conversation with the men who are accusing Him of being illegitimate by birth. These men are descendants of Abraham, but Abraham is the father of Faith in God, these men are not men of faith, thus they are not of father Abraham, they are men of religion. In verse 44 of John 8, we read, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Luke 11:1-4 and Matthew 6:9-13 are compared in to be in harmony in Matthew and Luke, that is that this event occurred only once in the beatitudes. Yet in the gospel of Luke when Luke records the beatitudes, he makes no mention of this prayer. I believe this conversation is separate from the beatitudes. Jesus prayed without ceasing, He was always talking with His Father and many disciples heard Him. It would be odd in my thinking that He was asked, only one time in His ministry for instruction on how to pray.

The Disciples prayer, given by the LORD Jesus is a perfect outline of how we ought to pray. We will look deeper into this as all of us need to sharpen our faith skills in the area of prayer to God. I will be using the context of Matthew 6:9-13 to discuss this prayer so today if you have time, meditate on this prayer. If I suffer with prayer and I often do, it is because I have become content with myself, rather than being content with my Father God.

A Devotional – SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (17)  COMMENT: Looking a little deeper! The cause of the flood that covered the entire surface of the earth, resulted; apart from the families of Adam and Seth. The families of unrighteous Cain also was multiplying. Cain went out (away) from the LORD; See Genesis 4:16-26. I want to note that the man Lamech in Cain’s family, is not the Lamech who begot Noah of Methuselah’s family who is of the Adam family.
