The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 128


SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 10:25-29
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” So, he answered and said, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’” And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.” But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
The extended conversation (Luke 10:30-37) of our LORD with the ‘certain lawyer’ is as relevant today as it was in the days of our LORD just five or six days before His crucifixion. What I seek to say is that we live in an evil world, a world filled with deception. So deceived are people that the darkness looks to them as light. Personal justification with words like, “and who is my neighbor?” project a couple of current thoughts, ones we are familiar with today.

(1)   Mercy is in word only; action is absent in the minds of most people when it comes to a neighbor in trouble. Also, a neighbor in this context refers to one’s national identity, our National identity is blurred by fake news and liberalism.
(2)   Jesus uses this parable to reveal that He is the neighbor rejected by His countrymen. While Jesus is not of our earthly nationality, He is the Author and Finisher of Faith in God, our allegiance is to the King of kings.

(Only the sons of Aaron were priests, Levites who are descendants of Levi were not, these assisted the descendants of Aaron who are priests}.

Treachery and infidelity are alive and well in RELIGION! Malachi 2:10-12 reveals the condition of the Jews religion and all religion. Religion is awake and aware of the idolatry and immorality of the day as it seeks to suppress the truth (Rom 1:18-32), it does so because it is blind to the Truth.

The LORD Jesus is preparing to sacrifice His human life for the SIN of the world, He came to the Jews, His countrymen; they rejected Him as a Samaritan (see John 8:41). National rejection moves the LORD to make this final comment in Luke 13:34-35.

A Devotional – SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (17)  COMMENT: Looking a little deeper! The cause of the flood that covered the entire surface of the earth, resulted; apart from the families of Adam and Seth. The families of unrighteous Cain also was multiplying. Cain went out (away) from the LORD; See Genesis 4:16-26. I want to note that the man Lamech in Cain’s family, is not the Lamech who begot Noah of Methuselah’s family who is of the Adam family.
