Personal Obedience—Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.

 

Acts 4 1Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. 5 And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, 6 as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power or by what name have you done this?”

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

 

It does not take long for Satan to mount a counter attack on God and the people whom God uses to evangelize the world around them. Satan’s primary war machine is religion. This is readily seen by any evangelist who is abiding in the power of God the Holy Spirit. The apostles Peter and John were preaching and teaching the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and several people in the Jewish religions and leadership began to oppose the preaching of Peter and John.

 

The rulers, elders, and scribes were made up of Pharisees and Sadducees; Annas, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander. All were sons of Annas, except for Caiaphas who was his son-in-law. All of these were there for one purpose and that was to examine the authenticity of both apostles for the miracle of healing the lame man, and the testimony of the Christ’s resurrection. If this tribunal could prove that the miracle was false, then according to Mosaic Law the sentence of death by stoning would have settled on Peter and John.

 

There is a lot going on in this chapter, just as in chapter two, so we will stop here. But before we do, let me take a moment too talk about the five thousand men. We must consider that women and children above the age of accountability are present at these gatherings. In this we should know that additional souls are saved as well. Chauvinism—men are not superior to women. God does not look at humankind in a gender priority framework. God looks at the soul of all humans, male and female, children, and adults, He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should be saved. See 2 Peter 3:9.

 

Ezekiel 18:4 All souls belong to God and all souls will give an account to God, either at the Bema Seat Judgment  (Believers) of the Messiah (1st Corinthians 5:10) or at the Great White Throne, (Revelation 20:11) (Unbelievers). Our flesh and bodies will return to the dust of the earth, but our souls will live forever. Heaven and Hell are forever places. If you are planning your eternity then where do you plan to be?
