The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 518

Today’s Kick -Start! Psalm 119 73 Your hands have made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments. 74 Those who fear You will be glad when they see me, Because I have hoped in Your word. 75 I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me. 76 Let, I pray, Your merciful kindness be for my comfort, According to Your word to Your servant.

Colossians 2;11-15 (NKJV) Law or Grace (Part 1)

11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Jesus Christ: He was the same Yesterday, He is the same Today, He will Forever Be God!

Circumcision is not a pleasant subject for the human mind to meditate on, for most of us, circumcision is cruel and confusing. If we were just to look at human reasoning concerning circumcision the confusion would be overwhelmingly proving to be nonessential. Circumcision is performed right after childbirth around day seven for most males. There are two basic reasons for circumcision. (1) for health requirements, and (2) for religious beliefs.

This is not the Circumcision that the apostle Paul is directing his readers to comprehend here in Colossians 2:11-15, or the total context of this section (verses 11-23) that we will meditate on over the remaining week.

Before trusting the gospel of Jesus Christ we were children of the devil and the darkness of the world. Our human (fleshly) nature controlled our very existence and we were led by our fleshly uncircumcised nature, this is the condition of humanity and the world around us, See John 8:43-44.

God’s circumcision totally separates us from our father the devil. It is final and never needs to be repeated. Again, it is final and complete when we trust Jesus Christ who died on our personal behalf for the sin of the world, we were; at that moment of trust—Translated into HIS kingdom of grace and righteousness. We do not earn (legalistically) this translated position, God provides salvation to you and me via the gift provided by His unique (only begotten) Son. Jesus Christ! This is: For by the grace of God we are saved, not a work of ourselves, but a GIFT from God.
