Psalm 8 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Glory of the Lord in Creation

To the Chief Musician. On the instrument of Gath. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Meditation in The Wisdom and knowledge of God
Adonai is the personal Name of our LORD and Sovereign Creator of the heavens and the earth. When David says as he does in this Psalm ‘O LORD our Lord’, he is meditating deeply on the Character of God, ‘Yahweh or Jehovah’. God is the self-existing God as in “I am the ONE who is”. David is expanding his meditation in that while Adonai will always be the LORD and Master of David’s life, he will not be negligent to remember also that God is Israel’s covenant keeping God, God is True to His promises.
When both Names of God appear together, the term is sometimes rendered ‘Sovereign LORD’. This brings up the importance of who it is we are seeking to communicate with. I know from experience that I am not always aware of my humbleness while seeking to communicate with the LORD. Yes too, God is our Father and we can come in tears and fears; we can also be angered and anxious, but we should never be insolent, as a lack of respect for God is a failure of faith in Him.
From the CJB verses 3 and 4 we read (3) When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and stars that you set in place —5 (4) what are mere mortals, that you concern yourself with them; humans, that you watch over them with such care?

We are created—lower than the angels, yet our Sovereign LORD has given us dominion over His Creation. Ever stop to give a thought of this? In the Epistle of 1 Peter, Peter connects this dominion Truth to our inheritance in heaven, read verses 3-12 and note the interests that the angels of God have, they desire to look into this truth. Yes, we are learning to have reverence for our Creator even when we communicate with Him, but the angels of God who are in constant view of God are also learning too, that God cares for all of His Creation, even us humans.
