Simeon Sees God's Salvation | Luke 2: |
on
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: 29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation 31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, 32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” 33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
Anna Bears Witness to the Redeemer Luke 2:
36 Now there
was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her
virginity; 37 and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the
temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And
coming in that instant she gave thanks to [j]the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for
redemption in Jerusalem. a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
The Christ – Meditation in The Wisdom and knowledge of God
Chapter
Two of Luke’s gospel is best for understanding the birth of Jesus Christ and
the mission and ministry only He would fulfill. Jesus came for the ‘rise and fall’
of many in Israel and a Light to the Gentiles – see Simeon’s blessing in verses
29-35. Anna’s prophesy is revealing to the mission of Adonai who is the
redemption for ALL who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
So
it is—celebrating Christmas is one day with many mixed feelings and emotions. In
many of our homes today, we observe the charm in the eyes of young and old as
they observe the Christmas Day. But like any magical moment, it is but for a
moment. Santa’s lie is tuck away in the closet or attic and will stay there
until the following year when we once again seek peace. For that day is but one
among the unrest of all the other 360 plus days to follow.
Jesus is Savior, He is the Deliverer from the 360 plus days in the world of no hope, we struggle daily with the push and pull of the world in which we live. For the many we cave in to the way of the world, just to get along or go along with friends and relatives, even in the pressures of living; Jesus offers us peace and safety for our soul; notice. Matthew 11:2828 “Come to me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Tomorrow
the world will celebrate Christmas and in many homes the Word JESUS will be
absent from the conversations and celebration, don’t let this be true in your
home. Begin your day in prayer to Adonai and your day will be surrounded with
the peace that surpasses all [human] understanding. For those who do not pray,
there will be peace and it will be humanly understood, but it will not be
eternally blessed.
