Esther 1 New King James Version (NKJV)
The King Dethrones Queen Vashti
1 Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (this was the Ahasuerus who reigned over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India to Ethiopia), in those days when King Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the citadel, that in the third year of his reign he made a feast for all his officials and servants—the powers of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the princes of the provinces being before him— when he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the splendor of his excellent majesty for many days, one hundred and eighty days in all.
Esther – Meditation in The Wisdom and knowledge of God

Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away, but there is JUST something about that NAME! Jesus is the King and Master over all of Creation, He is the Savior of all humankind. Jesus. When the name of Jesus is proclaimed by the children of God, the experience is a refreshing fragrance of His presence, like the freshness of a gentle breeze after a rain—JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, let all heaven and earth proclaim!

We will be focusing our attention on kings and kingdoms over the days ahead. God works behind current events, or out of public view, or even like the stagehand—behind the scene! Further still, you will not see His Name mentioned in this wonderful book of Esther. Yet you can easily see that God controls the reins of all who reign, in all kingdoms of the earth. Perfect Justice and Righteousness belong to God and not to controlling men or women who maintain personal agendas of relative righteousness and justice.

Located in Iran, it was a place of rule for the Meads and Persians during the captivity years of the Jews. Jerusalem was in ruins and men like Ahasuerus, and Artaxerxes ruled as kings over what we currently call the ‘Middle East’. The Citadel pictured above was the ‘Administrative headquarters’ which governed all the regions under the control of the Persian Empire.

In the third year of his reign, King Ahasuerus displayed the glory of the Meads and Persians, a national celebration that lasted for six months. At the end of the six months, he gave a party that lasted for one week. There was no limit to the cost of this event and every dignitary from all the regions under the control of the king was present. At any party where strong drink and wine is served, things have a way of losing control. On the final day of the party, the king called for Vashi the queen to display her beauty for the men.

She, however, was having her own party with the women who belonged to king Ahasuerus and refused the command of the king. Well, you can read chapter 1 of Esther and see that she was ‘impeached’ (dethroned) in the ‘third’ year of the king’s reign. Join us tomorrow for more about Esther.
