Persevering

James 5:7-12 – Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord, is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! 10 My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. 11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. 12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.

Christ/Messiah is The Wisdom and knowledge of God

Last Friday we looked at this portion of Scripture, yet I think it best to continue since the patient and preserving children of God are those who have stopped all self-effort works, to wait patiently for the appearing of the Messiah. Most likely these children are not in minority, these men and women are simply waiting for the coming of the LORD. These are those who abide in Word, the Living Word; Jesus/Messiah is the Living Word. These men and women have the same mindset as the apostle Paul. “I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life that I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Also, these are not those who for the sake of works seek to reveal their wares for God to prove their faithfulness, as immediate gratification is never a walk with the Spirit of God, but it is always the pathway of the flesh. Now, ought not we to know this? Yes!  2 Peter 3:12looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? The thoughts concerning helping God along with works are covered by the apostle Peter in his Second Epistle. We are to be diligently patient and be found in Him without the spots of self-effort, blameless.

Verses 13-20 of James 5 – While we wait for the return of our God and Savior, we are to be alert and watchful. Reaching out to those folks in our fellowship who are suffering and who have special needs. Good fellowships of faith do this and prayers of faith are not systems of personal work but are the results of our personal faith being equipped with the Will of God, as only God can forgive sin if sin is an issue. Being free to walk by faith in God is to be free of all ‘human viewpoint’ distractions. What is this sort of Faith? Faith in God, faith in your relationship to Christ, faith in abiding in Jesus and being filled with the Holy Spirit. Only faith in God will provide a fervent prayer, like that of Elijah. Elijah had a human nature just as ours, but He lived by faith in God and not by the seat of his pants.
