The sin of Pride encourages strife with others

James 4:1-6 – Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Humility Cures Worldliness

Christ/Messiah is The Wisdom and knowledge of God

Being able to see the strife in one’s mind is very large! Today in the 21st century most people do not understand the term ‘field-strip’. Years ago the U.S. Military personal were required, after smoking to ‘field-strip’ the cigarette butt for two reasons. One – to put out the burning ember, thus eliminating the major cause of field fires in those days, and Two – to eliminate the clutter of cigarette butts on the ground. Now this may seem to be outside the realm of godliness, yet; all to often our minds are cluttered with ‘pride’ and with the tongue as the amber at the end of the cigarette, the inner pride of life becomes a pleasurable avenue for battles of strife with others whom we are to love.

This, pride is a clutter of nuisance in every part of our way of life. “I don’t like the way you dress!” – “I don’t like you being so fat!” – “I don’t like the job I have” – “I don’t like the town I live in!” and “I will ascend into heaven” – “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God” – “I will also sit on the mount of the congregation” – “I will be like the Most High.” We have a serious problem with keeping our household in order. Notice Proverbs 31 and the virtuous woman – Proverbs 31:27 – She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.

Even with this unchecked pride in our hard-hearted way of life, we STILL expect God to answer our prayer, we ask Him and He refuses to hear, because our prayers are pride-based, rather than faith-based. As if this were not enough, our ignorance of a grace-based way of spiritual life misses the mark and we become ‘spiritual adulterers’ our prideful way of living is friendship with the world. Our way of life as a child of God is tarnished with our “I wills” and we become God’s enemy.

The Spirit of God who dwells in us becomes grieved, He is driven to godly jealousy, grief through discipline from God is applied to our lives. God will always resist the proud, just as God will always give more grace to the humble. So, let us get beyond just being happy with your pride, and rebound to the fullness of joy by being humble.
