Christ’s = Our Only Hope

God’s Promise Is Not Slack, and the Day of the LORD

2 Peter 3:8-13 – But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Jesus, the Christ, God’s Messiah

Where do the prophets and apostles of the New Testament get their information from and how do we know that God is the same yesterday, today and forever? The apostle states expressly (clearly), in the context of 2 Peter 1:16-21 that Scripture is of no private interpretation, but IS the Trustworthy and Prophetic Word of God. Our temporal minds cannot hang on to a thought long enough on any subject to last a thousand seconds, (a little over 16 minutes). Time is measurable in the mind of God (see Revelation 8:1). Thus we become accountable to God for what we know and what we forget in time.

So where do the apostles and prophets (like the writer of Hebrews) get their information from? The Old Testament! Note Psalm 90, Moses writes in his psalm and our verse four—For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night. Thus when men and women seek to deceive mankind with false teaching it ought to be obvious to the child of God that all of the nonsense of their teachings are extrabiblical (outside the context of the Living Word of God).

In all, God knows the very end of things, before the beginning (Isaiah 46:10) Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,' These Truths of God should be very comforting to His children! God knows and understands His Plan. God has set all of the boundaries of the earth; the earth obeys God (Psalm 78:1 and Genesis 8:22). God’s love for His Creation is ETERNAL (Psalm 102 and John 3:16).

Therefore since we KNOW these things (for the next sixteen minutes, NO!)  BUT, what manner of person ought we to be: How should our conduct be before God and mankind nearby? Our conduct should be steadfast, it should be consistently unmovable and HOLY. A reminder from the apostle—Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which ‘righteousness dwells!’ (2 Peter 3:13).
