Christ’s = Our Only Hope

God’s Promise Is Not Slack

Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this, they willfully forget, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Jesus, the Christ, God’s Messiah

By way of reminder, the apostles and the writers of the New Testament provide ongoing Truth to God’s children by explaining in detail the events surrounding Creation, the fall, and the Mercy of God, revealed in Christ, all of this from the Old Testament. Scripture is NOT of any private interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20-21 – knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Not one writer of the New Testament steps outside the boundary of the Old Testament, this truth alone ought to be extremely comforting to the child of God. We do not seek, fables or extra-biblical sightings, or witnesses of events with gods that do not exist. Everything pertaining to life and godliness, God has already provided (2 Peter 1:3-4) – as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The epistle of Second Peter is fully equipped to encourage our minds by the way of reminder that God is the Creator and Sustainer of all Creation. Yet as mankind falls into depravity and deception; doom is pending as (2 Peter 3:8-9)  But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. The day of the LORD is coming, are you ready?
