Christ’s Example to Be Followed

2 Peter 1:16-21 – The Trustworthy Prophetic Word (Matt. 17:5; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:35 )

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus, the Christ, God’s Messiah

Our Faith, hope and love is in GOD, this is simple enough to know and believe. Even a child who reaches the age of being accountable for what is ‘right or wrong’ can confidently accept God as Creator and Redeemer. The immediate response of anyone who experiences faith in God is; Hope and Love for Him. A faith that fails to have this confidence and comfort in the person of the Christ/Messiah is not a faith that goes the distance. The apostle Paul in 1st Corinthians 15:1-2 puts what I am seeking to say in perspective - Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

The Word of God is not a fable or some magical formula devised by the human mind. There are not many Messiahs, nor are there many gods, there are no acts of human contrition that please the Creator, as some religions teach. As the apostle Peter states in his epistle and writes in 1 Peter 2:17 - For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” So, we KNOW that NO prophecy of scripture came to us from ANY private interpretation, it came from our CREATOR, to and through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ/Messiah. The apostles of the New Testament are witnesses of all of the Old Testament promises.

We could spend our redeemed life abiding in the promises of the prophetic Word of the Our God and Savior, or we can spend that same lifetime simply knowing that our redemption is secure in Christ, but fail to receive the abundant entrance that God will supply in the everlasting kingdom of His grace found in His beloved Jesus. While it may be the eleventh hour for some of us to begin that study, it is not too late to start. Matthew 20:1-16, see verse 9 at least. “And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.
