Christ’s Example to Be Followed

2 Peter 1:5-11 – Fruitful Growth in the Faith
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Jesus, the Christ, God’s Messiah
I am sure you know that a promise of any kind is not realized until it is given or matures. One of the best examples of this is when we realize that the promise of personal salvation has been given to us is to look directly at our salvation. Romans 3:24 – being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, and 1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. Remembering when you were saved and KNOWING you were saved by the grace of God. We would quickly say, ‘praise God and Amen’ when we remind ourselves of God’s grace to us when we were justified.

This faith to believe the gospel of grace is ‘static’ in the sense that it cannot be moved or taken away from the individual who has it, it is personal to you. Ephesians 2:8-10 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that (yet) not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. However, we are called by God to do something with our personal faith. God has ‘worked grace His plan into our lives, we are bought with the price of God’s sacrifice and now we have the responsibility to give all diligence to our faith by using all that God has freely given and grow up our faith.

Thus, add to your personal faith ‘virtue’ virtue is high moral conduct, knowing what is right, is not enough, we must do what is right by allowing God via His Holy Spirit to guide and direct our personal thoughts and actions. A standard of our physical being that is controlled by the Spirit of God. Therefore, do we seek the knowledge of the world around us to advance our faith in God, or do we add to our faith and virtue knowledge from the wisdom of God’s Word? The obvious answer is to search out and apply the knowledge of God to our salvation from His Word. We have to take personal responsibility to increase our faith, virtue, and knowledge via God’s Plan for all of His children. 2 Timothy 2:15 – Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

And if the LORD tarries – more tomorrow!
