To live in the Blessing

1 Peter 3:8-12 – Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. For: “He who would love life  And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.

Jesus, the Christ, God’s Messiah

We are not afraid to ask God to bless us, are we? I figure that there is not a day that goes by that we are not seeking a blessing from God. Yet, what happens when our compassion for another brother or sister, and even an unbelieving friend or sibling is rubbing you the wrong way? Does not our humbleness of heart become threatened and our composure respond like Cain in the day when the LORD God said to him, Genesis 4:6 – So the LORD said to Cain, “Why ARE you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? There is little doubt in my mind, that this question of the LORD God is ‘worn out’ by the LORD as He must say this to His children – ALL THE TIME!

We seldom see that the OPPOSITE of a Spiritual walk and blessing with God, is an evil walk with the world. This is contrary to blessing, plain common sense should be enough to make us understand this, but it is not common sense that is in view here, is it? God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Proverbs 3:34 – Surely, He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble. The apostle James sites this verse in James 4:6 – But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

Do you love life? You may say no, but in your heart, you know better! Are you not interested in seeing ‘good days’? Yes, of course, you are! Then refrain yourself and tongue from evil, walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of evil which from your flesh ARE AT WAR with the Spirit of God who dwells (abides) in your soul. Your soul is the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19 – Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

Our fellowship with God and our brothers and sisters in Christ is destroyed by our self-righteous conduct, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 – Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

If your relationship with God is “all academic” then you KNOW how to do good, but sadly, you do not know how to put what you know into PRACTICE. Jesus in the third chapter of Revelation speaks to the church of Laodicea “Behold, I stand At the door and KNOCK, in anyone hears My Voice and opens the door, I will come to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Hold fast to what you have in Jesus Christ as; 1 Timothy 6:6 – Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
