1 Peter 1:3-7 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time, in this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

Jesus, the Christ, God’s Messiah

The main subject that I wish to focus on as we look into this section of the epistle of 1 Peter is the subject of FAITH, just as the apostle who states in verse 5 of chapter one says, “who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” The initial faith of anyone who believes the gospel is all that is needed for anyone to be kept by the power of God through the phases of saving faith, which is ‘Salvation Justification’ ‘Salvation Sanctification’ and Salvation Glorification’. We have looked at this in the past, but we are often challenged by the fallen world which seeks to destroy our faith, mainly while we are being sanctified spiritually by God through the various trials of living in the world.

It is not our personal Justifying faith in God that keeps us saved. As the apostle says, “we who are KEPT by the POWER of God through ongoing Sanctifying faith. We have an inheritance Glorifying faith that is ‘imperishable’ it is ‘incorruptible’ and it is ‘undefiled’, protected from the fallen world and cannot be taken away even if our personal faith wavers. The fiery trials that come into our lives can do, one of two things, (1) drive us to bitterness of heart and wavering faith or, (2) 1 Peter 1:7 – that the genuineness of our faith, which is much more precious than gold which perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

These are serious matters for all children of God, we are the elect pilgrims in the fallen world around us, our human nature always reacts first to the natural conditions around us. Still, it is not the spirit of the world which we have received, but it is the Spirit of God, that we might know the things that have bee freely given to us by God – 1 Corinthians 2;9-16.
