The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 201

Luke 21:7    So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”

Matthew 24:3Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

Mark 13:4 “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

Luke 21, Matthew 24 and Mark 13 is a major subject and discourse among the many found in the gospels. All are important, very important to the Jew first and then to the Gentile. The events that the LORD Jesus discusses with His disciples are concerning His nation and prophesy from Daniel, Ezekiel and others who provide truth from God in the scriptures of the Old Testament. Times and seasons in the Word of God do not change, just as the promises and prophesies of God do not change, the writer of Psalm 119 states in verse 160 puts this in perspective when he wrote – The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

We will be taking a tour, not a detour through the gospels, Daniel and Ezekiel, the Psalms and other related passages as we seek to understand the answers that Jesus provides to the two questions of His disciples. The two questions are found in all three synoptic gospels which give answers and importance to the subject. The gospel of John provides us with the purpose to believe that JESUS is the CHRIST/MESSIAH the Son of God and that by BELIEVING you may have abundant and eternal life.

Let me say again, a disciple is a learner and follower; and in this case, these disciples are disciples of JESUS CHRIST/MESSIAH. These are not His apostles even though the apostles are with Jesus and the disciples. The point – multitudes of men, women, and children are with the LORD Jesus (Just a few, less than 72 hours before His death on the cross, and imagine if you will, less than 144 hours from His resurrection). These are the last Words to be spoken to His followers as He prepares Himself for the sacrifice as the Lamb of God, for your sins and mine.
