Luke 20:1-9-19 – Then He began to tell the people this parable “Now at vintage-time, he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed. “Again, he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. “And again, he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out. “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’ “But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’ “So, they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore, what will the owner of the vineyard do to them? “He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.” And when they heard, they said, “Certainly not!” Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone’? “Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” And the chief priests and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on Him, but they feared the people—for they knew He had spoken this parable against them.

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

As time moves forward, God’s timetable of history has and will always be on right on schedule, I believe that Jesus is reminding those listening to Him to think of Israel’s history. As in Luke 13:34-35 and again Luke 19:41-44, The Messiah has lamented and wept over the hardness of heart of His beloved nation. Yes, the multitude who are following Him are being saved. These by the writers of the gospels are called disciples, lest we forget the meaning – (literally – followers of Jesus). We understand too that the religious leaders feared the disciples of Jesus. This I believe is an important point – Luke 20:19.

Religion is afraid of pure FAITH, if you took the moment to read and study this parable, you would notice that the pure faithfulness of vineyard owner, placed His vineyard in the hands of capable vineyard keepers. However, the vineyard keepers hired people who were not trained to walk by faith, but by sight.  As time passed the vineyard began to produce a product that even the owner could no longer use. Why? Because the current keepers of the vineyard were operating by feigned (sight) faith, rather than unfeigned (pure) faith.

Religion is not naïve, but it is blind because it walks by human sight and NOT by faith in God. Religion is able to comprehend its pending doom just as the teachers of the law and the chief priests began looking for ways to arrest Jesus because they understood that the parable was about their doctrines of control, vice the freedom of faith.

If you are being held by religious thoughts that have little to do with pure faith in God, may I remind you of Proverbs 24:30-34, then be diligent; 2 Peter 3:12-18.
