Luke 18:31-34 – Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. “For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. “They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken.

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
It is easy to get bogged down in the details of a trip from Jericho to Jerusalem. The geographical layout; eighteen miles of dangerous terrain, bandits and other hazards. Of King David’s flee from Absalom his son, in 2 Samuel and such things like being above sea level in Jerusalem and below sea level in Jericho in just an eighteen-mile trip and thus miss the discourse that Jesus is giving to His disciples.

Often the disciples did not understand the things that Jesus spoke; whether with the public or in private. Our human desire is to be critical with these men for not understanding. After all; they walked and talked with Him all day long! But what about this! How many times have you read a verse of scripture and gleaned something new out of it every time you reread it, and we have the New Testament and the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit!

I am reminded of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, Luke 24:1-35, but should we stop here? No, not at all, the events of Christ’s death and resurrection traumatized and caused them to go into hiding. The two disciples returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven disciples, telling them of their experiences with the Risen LORD. Do you suppose the eleven would have believed? Of the same chapter in Luke and after they were told by the two, Jesus appeared to them. Verse 37. “But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit.”

Jesus spoke encouragement to them, showing them His Hands and Feet, asking them for food, they gave Him broiled fish and honeycomb, He took it and ate it in their presence. What a burst of wisdom! As they began to realize that the words spoken to them in the past were now, completely fulfilled. Words that were not new but were told centuries before by Moses and the Prophets, even written in the Psalms. Jesus opened their understanding and to go and preach this “Good News”, but to wait for the Promise of the Father – THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Are you saved and have the Holy Spirit abiding in you? If so, you are endued with power from on high, just like the apostles, so what are you waiting for? Worship the LORD by sharing Him with the lost people around you.
