The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 177

1 Corinthians 2:9-12 – But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

First – I will be on vacation starting tomorrow until Thursday, May 31, 2019, so there will not be a devotional during this time

Today and before we continue in Luke 16 concerning the rich man and Lazarus I thought it necessary to take a look at the heart of man, which according to the LORD Jesus is wicked beyond our understanding (yet we can understand, for God is willing to give us that understanding), see Matthew 15:1-20 as defilement comes from within a person’s heart; see also Jeremiah 17:9.

The whole of 1 Corinthians is a necessary read (study) to consider, and if you do study you will see that there are at least sixty-four sins developed by the apostle Paul that is committed in this local church of Corinth. If you allow yourself to think deeper, you will see the very same things going on in our local churches TODAY. What I am saying is that there is nothing new under the sun. If this is true and it is, then what is the catalyst that drives us to repeat what we wish to rid ourselves of. Jeremiah explains: the heart (of man) is deceitful above all, and desperately (incurably sick) wicked; who can know it – Jeremiah 17:9.

In other words, I cannot blame the devil for something that I did, my heart (mind) is no different than the heart of every man woman or child. From the first Adam and throughout all generations the heart of man is incurably sick. So, this brings us to conclude that there is a ‘natural man and a spiritual man’. These two can and do abide in ONE person, just as (if you will) the Three Persons of our ONE God, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. When a person is regenerated (born again) they receive God the Holy Spirit, the natural man is put to death at the cross and the spiritual man and the Holy Spirit are now in charge of our heart. Yet, the heart retains the ability to SIN.

Reading/studying 1 Corinthians chapters 1 and 2 will help in understanding this. Carnality remains in the heart, which is all of the sinful desires that were developed by the natural mind before being saved. Spiritual discernment gives the saved person a choice to chose between carnality and spirituality as the Holy Spirit guides the apostle to write in 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 – But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

We have the responsibility to walk in the Spirit, in order to fulfill the will of God in us so that we do not carry out the deeds of the fleshly (carnal) heart that remains in us. See 1 John 3:4-9. See you again in a week, if the LORD permits.
