SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 11:1-4 (part 2)
Matthew 6:9 -13 – “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors – In our heart/soul we Spiritually communicate with God, this ought to be an ongoing conversation. When we sin, we break this Spiritual connection and our fellowship with God is interrupted, but not our relationship. With people, we have a moral obligation to be debt free. This debt is not a monetary debt, but a moral one. Offending a brother or sister, or anyone for that matter is a sinful act of selfishness. All selfishness is a sin, communication is broken, but not the relationship. The apostle Paul puts it this way – “this being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.” (see the context) Acts 24:10-21.

But deliver us from evil – Our Father, who alone is Holy demands that His child be holy too. Leviticus 11:45 and 1 Peter 1:16 transcend all dispensational times. God expects His children to be Holy, thus through time He has provided – pardon from all sin through the blood of Christ and a temporary cleansing of sin when His children are not holy in conduct. Also, and just as important, God delivers us from evil. His protection is revealed in many places in the Bible, here is just one of these – 1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear (endure) it.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen. – The sixty-six words of the LORDS prayer in the Matthew account reveal to the reader and meditator that God’s Kingdom, offered to His chosen nation – Israel, actually transcends all of time. Jesus gave this discourse to the Jew first, offering to restore Israel back to God. When Israel rejected, Luke 13:34-35. Jesus turns His attention to the rest of the world – see Matthew 28:18-20 or Acts 1:7-8. God’s purpose will be completed in Christ when His kingdom comes. Amen!
