SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 9:7-10
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him [Jesus]; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again. Herod said, "John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?" So, he sought to see Him. And the apostles, when they returned, told Him [Jesus] all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
The ministry of our LORD is moving forward, AD 29 is a busy and productive year for the LORD and the apostles. Luke 9:10 is not the first mention of the twelve men as apostles; see their commissioning in the following verses:

Matthew 10:2 – Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Mark 6:30 – Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.

Luke 6:12-15 – And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles…

The beheading of John the Baptizer is a major turning point in the ministry of our LORD. It is also a major shift in Herod’s life. In Mark 6 we can read that Herod feared John, considering John as a holy man of God, as John truly was! Herod put John in prison to gain favor with his wife, an illegitimate wife he stole from his brother, Philip. Herod became more afraid of the future and as he watched the events of Jesus and the twelve apostles unfold. His inquires of Messiah led him down the path of darkness, fear and trembling, of which he never returned.

As disciples, we are God’s messengers, some of us are even missionaries. As God’s children, we ought always to pray and seek God’s Will for our daily and moment by moment walk with the LORD. This also is a path of no return, but in contrast to Herod’s; walking with the LORD is Light, bright and glorious. When Jesus called His apostles to go with Him to that quiet and deserted area in the town of Bethsaida. He called them to abide with Him and to follow His lead. How do you feed 5,000 men plus women and children, estimated over 12,000 total, with two fish and five barley loaves of bread? You and I cannot do this, but FAITH in the CREATOR Jesus will unveil, His power, His glory, and His will. What is the Will of God? 2 Peter 3:9.
