SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 8:22-25 – The Eternal Plan of God

Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed, He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

Having spent most of my productive days on the oceans around our world, I can attest to the rage that a storm plays on the oceans, seas, and lakes. A brief example is that on one occasion, a destroyer I was on nearly sank in the Bermuda Triangle, the super-structure (the raised part of a ship) was being ripped from the main deck, and the bow of the ship was completely flooded when we got to Norfolk, VA. Also, in a storm, a submarine must dive to at least four hundred feet to get beyond the effects of the storm. This is the ocean effect! Seas and lakes are not deep like oceans and the effects of any storm are far more intense.

Life for all of us; does at times parallel a storm, most of us have lived in dangerous circumstances. Financial problems seem to top the list, marriage problems, children problems, problems with relatives and the list goes on! Or as one songwriter has written; “And the beat goes on!” Life is one turmoil after another. Many too, who are born from above through the shed Blood of our LORD suffer like our unbelieving neighbors! Why?

The problems in this experience of the apostles/disciples of Jesus find the only solution in Luke 8:22-25, Mark 4:35-41 and Matthew 8:23-27. In Matthew’s gospel we read, “Why are you so fearful, O you of little faith” in Mark’s gospel we read “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” No faith, little faith and where is your faith! These are the spiritual weathervanes of most people in their life in Jesus Christ. Faith in God has had an ongoing struggle since the dawn of history. In closing read, Hebrews 11 These people, like us today, faced the storms of life and survived, OUR VICTORY over living is abiding in Christ, by FAITH!
