A Devotional - SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (87)

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  John 20:30-31 – The Eternal Plan of God – Jesus
And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
Over the last week we have looked at some of the very familiar events in the Life of Jesus, but what we may not know is that up to this time in His life, it is only AD27 and His public ministry has not yet begun. His first miracle was in Cana at a wedding, remember, if you have read (John 1:35-51) of how He changed fresh water into costly wine. Or when He cleansed the Temple for the first time (John 2:2:13-22). Jesus did many other things too numerous to record according to the apostle John.
As time moved forward, Jesus journeyed to Samaria for a brief time, as in John 4:43, it seems that He stayed with the Samaritan people for two days. Jesus returned to Galilee to the town of Capernaum (some say His hometown). If you follow the events of Jesus closely you may notice that He moved with obedience and perfect timing. He moved within the Eternal Plan of God. It is at the time when John the Baptizer is placed in a prison that the Public Ministry of Christ begins. Matthew 4:12-17, also this beginning is identified with the Words of Jesus. “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”.
These are not insignificant words, every time these words are spoken by Messiah, He is reminding Israel of the opportunity for the nation to establish His Kingdom on earth. Matthew uses the term ‘kingdom of heaven’ thirty-two times, and as you know, Israel’s leadership rejects Him. Matthew seeks to get this point across to his readers throughout his gospel to the Jews.
As Children of God, we ought to be thanking God every day for being in Christ, and not in the world. Being in Christ, we are indwelt by God the Holy Spirit and the kingdom of God is in us. What an awesome thought (we are not alone) that God did not leave us in this kingdom of darkness when He returned to heaven to fend for ourselves. (John 4:14) We have rivers of living water flowing from us daily, (that being the Holy Spirit), see John 14:16-18.
