A Devotional – SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (72)

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Matthew 1:18-25 The Eternal Plan of God
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." So, all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. See also, Isaiah 7:14-15.

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
Jesus is the Light of and to the world. God did not do this in secret, the Truth is that God promised Israel that a Child would be born, that the government would rest upon His Shoulders. That His Name would be, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (See; Isaiah 9:6). The context of Isaiah six is referencing our Savior’s Second Advent when the government of the entire world will rest on the Shoulders of God’s Son the Messiah. This promise was made to Israel, roughly 740 years before this night when Joseph was visited by an angel of the LORD in a dream.

Joseph was a just man, he was a man of “Old Testament integrity” he knew scripture, both Matthew and Luke speak of the ‘upright character of Joseph’. One of the problems that men face today, ‘around the world’ is that very few are brought up to know the LORD. The Old and the New Testaments are foreign to young people. While in the days of the birth of our LORD, there was found no place for Him to be born, except in a stable, we find that in the souls of men and women today there is no place for God to abide. Our souls are filthy with sin and our hearts are involved with self-righteous ambitions.

Today, men, women and children are like the Proverb in chapter 20, verse six reads: Most men will proclaim each, his own goodness. But who can find a faithful man? Good and evil rides on the coattails of religion.  However, as we all need to know; “Grace and Truth overcomes the devil’s religion”.
