The Devotional - Psalm 121 - Hills of Evil Opposition
The
Devotional
Psalm 121 – I will lift up my eyes to the
hills – From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven
and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved (slip); He who keeps you
will not slumber, Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber not sleep.
The LORD is your keeper (protector); The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall
preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall
preserve (keep) your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even
forevermore.
COMMENT:
The Psalm (a song of ascents) is directed at the people of Israel, yet it has
application for you and me who are Church age saints. As time and Christ
centered history move forward, the one thing that we saints ought to notice is
that the hills of opposition are larger than those of last year. Not to single
out our beloved country as with Israel in this Psalm, but all around the world
we are seeing the hills of evil looming large. Signs of the times, and where then,
is our help?
Our help
comes from the LORD as verse two states, it does not come from any earthly
source since evil controls the natural way of life on this earth, evil looms
large. Like hills of; immorality, idolatry, unrighteousness, wickedness, greed,
malice and haters of God. This is just to name a few, the list of this unclean
condition of the world is listed in Romans 1:18-32.
Help! Our
help is from the LORD, who did not make the hills of ‘fallen man’. God, the
LORD/ Messiah made the heavens and the earth, He does not sleep or slumber over
that which He has provided for mankind to enjoy. He alone is our sustainer,
protector and keeper, as Isaiah 25:4 states. God is a sustaining strength to
the spiritually poor and needy, He is a refuge, a safe haven from every storm
and a shade from the heat. Messiah does this continually for those who put
their trust in Him alone; to enjoy God
is an Awesome adventure.
Messiah will
preserve His children, He will preserve your going in and your coming out, He did
this yesterday, He will do it today and He will also do this tomorrow. Why?
Jesus the Messiah is the same, yesterday, today and forever; Hebrews 13:8.
