The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 773

Today’s Kick Start! (NKJV) 1 Peter 1 22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever

Personal Obedience—Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.

Acts 12 11 And when Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.” 12 So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. 15 But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, “It is his angel.” 16 Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 But motioning to them with his hand to keep silent, he declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Go, tell these things to James and to the brethren.” And he departed and went to another place.

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

The apostle is stunned and you would be as well, first I should bring to mind that Peter understood that when he would wake up in the morning that he would probably die at the hands of those soldiers, so how could he sleep so soundly. Certainly a question that I will ask Peter when I meet up with him in heaven! The angel is in complete control, Peter even after he is sent on his own outside the gates of the prison is not fully cognizant of what had just happened.

But then he knows that God has provided for his escape from Herod and the Jews, this is now the fifth attack on the young church, but the church is seasoned to these attacks and prayer in Mary’s home (the mother of Mark, the writer of the gospel of Mark) is constantly lifted up for God to provide for Peter’s release. Again we see doubt; Rhoda one of the women in the home called out to the person at the door. His voice sounded like Peter’s and she told the group, and they told her she was extremely and emotionally overwhelmed (beside herself), the person could not be Peter.

If you have ever explained a Spiritual moment with God, most people will believe that you are just overwhelmed with emotion. Doubt, fear, and some human excuse will follow and this is exactly what transpires with the people praying for Peter’s release [imagine that!]. I do not think that the prison was far from Mary’s home. When they do open the door, there excitement is over the top, Peter causes them to quite down. He does take the time to explain the events of his escape and then asks them to tell these events to James, the half-brother of Jesus and to the brethren which I believe is the church council. (leadership) Then Peter departed to a safer place.
