The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 771

Today’s Kick Start! (NKJV) 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Personal Obedience—Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.

Acts 12 Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread. So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

Persecution and harassment of the church of Jesus Christ hits home for the apostle John, James his brother is murdered at the hands of Herod. It is the year AD 42/43; king Herod Agrippa (AD41-AD44) found it pleasing to the Jewish community to persecute the church.

We may well conclude that this event was 2,000 plus years ago and think that it is not relevant in todays modern version of church, but may I remind ‘all of us’ that the ideology of our country and our educational centers today are in bed with Marxism. Karl Marx was extremely anti-Jew and anti-Christian. Thus it is just a matter of time.

May I also remind us that God is on His Throne and as Hebrews 13 states Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God is able to deliver His children of all generations through times of persecution, Isaiah 43 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. These verses of scripture are more than familiar sayings, these were truths; to live by yesterday, and are truths to live by today, because our Savior ever lives and meets our every need.

Today the number of men in a military squad is eight, it is not known if this is accurate for the context here in our study, but it does seem reasonable. This would be thirty-two men to guard the apostle. Agrippa did not want the apostle to escape. However, God has a better plan for all of His children, including you and me.

Romans 8 36  As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. As our days move forward and the fullness of times for us are fulfilled, I see us referring to the book of Acts as our ‘go to’ book for spiritual guidance; that being, as if we choose to walk [personally]in the Spirit, we will not carry out the deeds of our [personal] flesh. Galatians 5:16.
