Today’s Kick Start! –(NKJV) Romans 12 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Personal Obedience—Walk
in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.
Acts 10 9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him, and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.
JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!
The Lord is putting a meeting together, the men and women involved in this meeting have at that moment in time no clue as to what is going on in the kingdom of God. Angels are involved with the Cornelius household and the Messiah is meeting with the apostle Peter. It is 3pm and Cornelius clearly sees the angel of God (Acts 10 3) and he responds and sends a couple of faithful servants and one of his trusted soldier.
Peter, who is logging with his friend Simon a tanner, goes to pray. Many Israelite homes had flat roofs; cisterns and basins to catch rain for fresh water and this was an ideal place for Peter to go and spend quite ‘personal’ time with his Savior and friend Jesus.
Again we catch a glimpse of Peter’s argumentative character. The Lord shows Peter a cloth (a sheet) full of birds, animals, and creeping life. All of which were considered polluted for Jewish consumption, Peter argues with the Lord. Peter hears the Lord say, “rise Peter kill and eat” not so argues Peter and a second time the Lord response “what I have made clean you must not call common”. “Peter do you love me” this event took three times to sink into Peter’s mind and so did this event as well.
The vision and message to Peter has a twofold purpose. Peter will be going to a Gentile nation to the city of Caesarea (Philippi). Jews had rare dealings with Gentiles, they were considered polluted. A people full of idolatry and their eating habits were full of ‘pork’. A day’s journey away and difficult to pack a bit of food, these Jewish men would dining with the Gentiles who ate polluted things.
You may find it difficult to believe in dreams and visions, but I believe that if you are willing to spend ‘personal’ time with the LORD, you will be pleasantly surprised. God loves us and He is always willing to talk. Our world is too busy to listen, but what about ‘you personally’?
