The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 760

Today’s Kick Start! –(NKJV) Galatians 2 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Personal Obedience—Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.

Acts 9 36 At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did. 37 But it happened in those days that she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them. 39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought him to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. 41 Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up; and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord. 43 So it was that he stayed many days in Joppa with Simon, a tanner.

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

I suppose we could spend our entire time looking at Tabitha’s title which is by Luke’s confirmation ‘disciple’. Maybe we should spend this time as many churches do not recognize women as disciple’s of the Lord Jesus Christ. It may be that we place to much emphasis or responsibility on the church to appoint or anoint people to the ministry of disciple. Yet, the older I become I learn that we modern day Christians suffer from spiritual malnutrition.

If you search New Testament Scripture, you will find that appointments to ministry in the church are found in Ephesians 4 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. This is too bring all saints in the church to maturity in Christ.

The gifts of the Spirit are called ‘spirituals’ as God the Holy Spirit is the administrator of these gifts. No human has the power to bestow or remove a spiritual gift. A study of 1 Corinthians 12-14 will help to understand this. The saints of God are not all disciples of God, disciples are those who study to show themselves approved of God, who do the work of ministry. 2 Timothy 214-15.. In Acts 6 we see the apostles call on all of the disciples to choose among themselves 7 men, full of the Holy Spirit to administer help and discipline among the saints who disagree over material services within the Jewish congregation.

These folks are disciples of the Messiah by personal choice to mature in Christ, or we should say; ‘there is a remnant of God’s children who seek a deeper relationship with God who desire to serve Him and by doing so, they willingly serve God’s children and esteem all of God’s people as exhorted in Philippians 2 3  Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

More tomorrow as God allows. Keep looking up as our full redemption from this corrupted world is drawing near. We are living in days when the authority of this world has convinced the men and women of this world that evil is a good venture to employ, while the good that remains is a venture to destroy. However; Isaiah writes Isaiah 5 20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
