The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 753

Today’s Kick Start! – (NKJV) James 1 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

Personal Obedience—Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.

Acts (CSB) 8 26 An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: “Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is the desert road.) 27 So he got up and went. There was an Ethiopian man, a eunuch and high official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of her entire treasury. He had come to worship in Jerusalem 28 and was sitting in his chariot on his way home, reading the prophet Isaiah aloud. 29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go and join that chariot.” 30 When Philip ran up to it, he heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you’re reading?” 31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone guides me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the Scripture passage he was reading was this: He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before its shearer, so he does not open his mouth. 33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who will describe his generation? For his life is taken from the earth. 34 The eunuch said to Philip, “I ask you, who is the prophet saying this about—himself or someone else?” 35 Philip proceeded to tell him the good news about Jesus, beginning with that Scripture. 36 As they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. The eunuch said, “Look, there’s water. What would keep me from being baptized?” [f] 38 So he ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any longer but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip appeared in Azotus, and he was traveling and preaching the gospel in all the towns until he came to Caesarea.

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

Ethiopia, known in those days as the ‘farthest ends of the earth’ is Africa. Candace and the eunuch are Africans. The church moves into the known world; Still and even today (Evangelism) is the only method God uses to bring the world to Him. During an evangelistic event the Holy Spirit is very personal and very active. I think of Him this way, as the Holy Spirit tenders our understanding of God personally, God is a personal Creator. See John 15 26.

The world in these days understood that the Temple in Jerusalem was a place where the One God of the Jews were to worship Him, many people; Jews, and proselytes of all of the know world came to Jerusalem for this purpose alone; read Acts 2 5-13. The eunuch was returning home after such an event as we see in Acts 2. He was a devoutly religious man—did you know that even in the world of unbelief, engulfed in deceit and wickedness, we the people of this world could be religious? Most of us are! So the question we must ask ourselves is—

“Am I simply a religious unsaved sinner, or am I personally involved with Christ and a saved sinner?” Only you can answer that question and in your soul—you already know, just as the eunuch did! Phillip shared the LORD Jesus with the eunuch who was boldly reading Isaiah 53 out loud. Of course, he was alone on a dessert road, though he had several slaves who were making his journey to and from his destinations possible. When God’s Word goes out, it never comes to rest in a lonely dessert and it never returns to the Lord void. See Isaiah 55 11.

The immediate response of the eunuch after the scripture was explained to him by Phillip was JOY in his inner soul. God provided water in the dessert and immediately the eunuch was baptized. God sent Phillip away, yet this did not alarm or discourage the eunuch as he was very well caught up rejoicing in his new and personal faith in God.
