The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 752

Today’s Kick Start! – (NKJV) James 1 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

Personal Obedience—Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.

Acts 8 19 (CSB) [Simon] saying, “Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”20 But Peter told him, “May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, your heart’s intent may be forgiven. 23 For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by wickedness.” 24 “Pray to the Lord for me,” Simon replied, “so that nothing you have said may happen to me.” 25 So, after they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they traveled back to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

Lying to the Holy Spirit as with Ananias and Sapphira is a serious offense against the kingdom of God, it does carry a penalty of death. So in a similar way, using the Holy Spirit for personal gain is as well; seriously offensive to God, who gives to all of His children liberally and without reproach. See James 1 2-8.

There are a couple of thoughts that cross my mind concerning Simon. (1) Sins of wickedness and bitterness are bound up in the heart of all people who are unsaved. (2) While sins are forgiven at the moment of being saved, these are still deeply rooted experiences and circumstances of the flesh. Rather than relying on the gift of God and His grace, Simon resorted to his fleshly understanding of wickedness. Bitterness is present too when Simon pleads with the apostles to pray for him.

Many people, even today have this same experience since they are not willing to give up certain fleshly activities. Sins only satisfy the moment, but in the process these destroy the future because sin is a fleeting fantasy. All who stand in its path are destroyed if repentance is ignored. Proverbs 21 6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death. I believe that all sin carries the penalty of spiritual death, this is an immediate reaction by God. God’s will is for all of His children to carry out His Will on this earth as it is being carried out in heaven.

Matthew 6:9-11 and James 1 and James 1:2-11, speak to you and me concerning our life before Almighty God—it is not lived out before Him in the flesh, if we are going to worship God properly we must worship according to His Will. Galatians 5:16 is the challenge we all face daily, whether we are new saints, or salty old saints. “I say then, Walk in the Spirit and you will not carry out the deeds of the flesh.”.
