The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 714

Today’s Kick Start! (NKJV) John 20 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).

Personal Obedience—(NKJV) The Lamb of God is THE LORD who IS our Passover.

John  20 11 But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” 14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He IS God Forever!

This is the greatest event in the history of Creation—The risen Messiah—He alone has VICTORY over sin and death and He is alive forevermore.

Mark 16 9 Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons.

Luke 8 1 Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

Many days have passed since this day in Luke 8, Mary Magdalene has followed her ‘Rabboni’ she is involved with the Creator of the heavens and the earth as He is her Master/Teacher. This title of respect should also be on our lips as we study and meditate on the LORD. Yet, most of us are nominal children of God. We read and get emotional over the events in the life of Jesus, but as soon as the emotion wears away, we stray.

Mary did not recognize Jesus, not because His features were changed or marred beyond recognition, but because she was overwhelmed with emotion and shock. You would be too if you were expecting to see the one whom you love as a friend and teacher (who is now dead) not where they had laid Him.

The tomb is empty, her mind raced for a solution, even the stone closure is removed and someone is speaking to her (she thinks, it must be the gardener). The questions she asked would be the questions of deeply upset or distraught person. In this state of mind anyone would have difficulty regathering their wits. It was not until she heard the familiar sound of the voice of Jesus saying to her as He must have said many times in the past—Mary! The emotions shift from fear and anxiety to the peace of friendship and recognition.

How awesomely wonderful is the Messiah—at the point of being saved by His grace we all observe Jesus in a similar manner. As we grow in Christ and sometimes backslide, it is as if someone has taken our Rabboni away, yet when we return we clearly see that the stone of closure is still removed the tomb is still empty and Jesus is still calling our name and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding is standing in front of us and He is still calling our name. Oh! What a wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord!
