The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 559

Today’s Kick Start! (CJB) Proverbs 8: 14 Good advice is mine, and common sense; I am insight, power is mine. 15 By me kings reign, and princes make just laws. 16 By me princes govern,
nobles too, and all the earth’s rulers

The Wisdom of God is available to kings and those in authority, but most fail to use it!

John 3:22-26 (NKJV) Discerning the heart of Mankind

22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized. 23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized. 24 For John had not yet been thrown into prison. 25 Then there arose a dispute between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified—behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!”

JESUS CHRIST: He IS the same Yesterday, He IS the same Today, He Forever, IS God!

Every moment of every day is an important event in life to give thanks to God for His unfailing Love. Like the song by Ella Fitzgerald—I’ll be loving you always (1956) Giving thanks to God is always realizing His love for you and your love for Him. Days may not be fair; always, That's when I'll be there; always. Not for just an hour, Not for just a day, Not for just a year; But always”.

Such is the man, John the Baptizer, his focus on life and ministry was on God; always. His disciples, like some people who claim discipleship are followers for earthly reasons—even the disciples of Christ bickered among their ranks as to who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven (Luke 22:24) Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest.

We are all prone to bicker and prone to wander; like the hymn written by Robert Robinson “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” Failing to give God thanks will always place the child of God into the mode of “prone to wander, prone to leave the God I love”.  In Matthew 11:11 we read the words of Christ—“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Yet, John in prison was prone to wander.

So, I believe the giving of thanks to God is as vital for our Spiritual health, even as the Commandment says, to love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul, it would also work within our Spiritual favor, to love our neighbor – too!
