Philippians 1 New King James Version (NKJV)
To Live Is Christ (verses 19-26)
19 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. 25 And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith, 26 that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again.
The Christ – Meditation in The Wisdom and knowledge of God
As you may have guessed by now, I love to read the CJB (Complete Jewish Bible), I suppose that for everyone this would not be the case, but the casual reading that I do is very encouraging to me. It is somewhat like a commentary of what an English Version reads, but from a Jewish perspective. The apostle Paul should not be considered as a grumpy old man. In his later years of life, the apostle enjoyed the fellowship and communion with the children of God. I believe he continually focused on walking by faith to live in the joy of the LORD.
Consider this; the joy we experience in fellowship with God and with the children of God, is as the Scripture reveals is a supernatural joy of which the world cannot know or experience. There is a greater joy then even this since the apostle clearly reveals as we read in the Jewish Bible, “I am caught in a dilemma: my desire is to go off and be with the Messiah—that is better by far—but because of you, the greater need is to stay on in the body.”
Because of ministry, the apostle; like many good pastor/teachers labor in the grace that God supplies, that to continue on in the flesh there will be suffering because life on this earth is full of trial and tribulation. The fall of mankind is all around and the children of God who like sheep are prone to be stubborn, rather than to walk by faith. To be with the LORD, is to be set free from the trials and tribulations of our present condition on earth, thus it is by far better, to be with the Messiah. In all, it is far better to rejoice in the LORD, always, and again I say rejoice. Faith is for ALL the children of God to live in the Joy of Adonai.
