Luke 22:63-71Jesus is mocked and beaten

Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?” And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.

As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying, “If You are the Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe. “And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.  “Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.” then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.” And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
The last day of physical life for the LORD Jesus is an event that the children of God look at in horror. We know why this day the most most important day in the history of planet earth; and we praise God that our sins are forgiven because of this day. We also know that the LORD Jesus could have summoned the angels of God to rescue Him from this day of suffering. AS a human, He, being born of the virgin Mary, and He, being the Son of the Living God was nearing a physical death by becoming the LAMB of God (John1:29).

We also understand that this action on the Person of Jesus, even though carried out by mankind and the forces of evil were carried out by the will of God. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish by have everlasting life.” Need I tell you what chapter and verse of the gospel of John we find these words of Jesus?

Okay, we understand this, and a lot more, but how did Jesus, in His humanity make it through this day without caving in, which is what all of us would do? Would you say, He did this because He is God, yes, we could say that, but we know from scripture that God the Father and God the Holy Spirit turned their backside to this event. The event was more than anyone could witness, even God! The SIN of the world is horrible beyond what the mind or intellect could bear. Do not forget that we are made in the image and likeness of God, what we feel, God also feels.

Jesus relied totally on the Word of God, Jesus felt the human emotions we all feel, He felt abandon and forsaken. Did this abandon and forsaken feeling only happen to Jesus on the cross? Or did it begin when He was blindfolded, mocked and beaten? The Redeemer of Israel says in Isaiah 43:2-3 the following: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place.

Faith in God’s Word is what carried Jesus through His death, resurrection, and glorification. Faith in God’s Word will carry you and me through salvation – justification, sanctification, and glorification
