The Devotional – Search the Scriptures – 214

Luke 22:47-53And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? “When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
(Matt. 26:47–56; Mark 14:43–52; John 18:1–11 ) As you may recall, when important events in the Life of Christ are going on, all of the gospel writers will make note of the event. To get a good overview of the suffering of Christs’ final day and His obedience to the Will of His Father, it is necessary to read each dialog. In Matthew, we find out that ALL of the disciples forsook Christ and fled. Mark states the same thing saying, All, forsook the LORD and fled. In John’s gospel, we find out who struck the servant of the high priest.

In Luke’s gospel, we see what Jesus is doing: “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” The deceitful acts of the power of darkness revealed. The eleven are confused as this event causes them to reflect on the last supper and conversation of the LORD found in Luke 22:35-38 just a few minutes earlier and when the disciples leave the apostles with the exception of John and Peter who linger in the shadows leave the LORD, too!

This event has at least two more topics I wish to cover; (1) Matthew 26:53 – The war between God and Satan is very visible. Jesus reveals that He has the power to call twelve legends of angels to come to His rescue (a minimum of 36,000 to a maximum of 72,000 angels of God) the demonic world has power, but NO POWER against GOD, unless God permits, and (2) All throughout the Life and Ministry of Messiah on the earth, God has restrained the demonic actions of Satan, but now, in His final hours, Satan is released –  “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? “When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
