Luke 22:38b - 46 – … “it is enough.” Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. When He rose up from prayer and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

According to the time of the evening, it is late Thursday or early Friday morning; Jesus will not talk directly with His disciples for the remainder of His physical life, nor will He have any period of rest. His prayer in the garden is not the prayer of cowardness, but fear of the agonizing human will of separation. Separation from His Father and the Holy Spirit as He offers His physical, sinless and HOLY life to God as a permanent sacrifice for the sin of mankind. No one knows how strong the agony, but “O HOW HE LOVES YOU AND ME” Even these words fall short, do they not?

When is the last time you or I had angelic comfort in prayer? Maybe more than once, but when is the last time you or I sweat drops of blood in prayer? Never! Yes, when my daughter died at five years of age; I prayed and wept for her life, my body shook with trembling as she looked into my eyes and said; “I am dying!” but I did not sweat drops of blood. What I am saying is the suffering Messiah’s passion over dying for the SIN that caused my daughter’s death and the SIN that causes ALL death, is an offering that no one but Jesus could accomplish.

So horrible and so misunderstood (even today) that just like the disciples, we sleep the sleep of confusion and fear and our faith wavers and many reject the Truth of the grace of God that has appeared to ALL PEOPLE (Titus 2:11).

Witnessing the events to follow over the remainder of the LORD’s physical life, we will have the opportunity to see with our mind the agony and suffering of our Savior, instead of sleep, meditate and pray. God will reveal His love for you and bring to you great and mighty truths that we all need to know, (1 John 5:4-5) “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has overcome the world – YOUR faith! If you have not exercised faith in the gospel of God’s Son than you do not have the victory.
