Luke 19:37-40 – Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying: “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
In Luke 13 Jesus laments over the hardness of heart He sees in the nation. Jerusalem, the center of Judaism has a history of stoning and killing the prophets of God. Jesus is determined to go to Jerusalem as He states in Luke 13:33 that no prophet can die outside of Jerusalem. It is interesting that some of the Pharisees warn Jesus to stay away from Jerusalem as Herod is seeking to kill Him. This could be a lie, note Luke 23:8.

During these final days of the LORD Jesus, Herod, the Roman client king of Judea (Tetrarch). And Pontius Pilatus the fifth “Perfect” of the Roman province of Judaea for ten years (AD 26-36) were the reigning civil authority and the Pharisees and Sanhedrin were the religious authorities over the Jerusalem and the nation. However, these authorities had no power to put anyone to death and this is why the gentile nation of Rome became involved in the death of our Savior. But, let’s not forget that all of this is in accordance with God the Father’s Plan of Redemption, (Note Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22).

Thousands of disciples along with the apostles are following the LORD on the road from Jericho to Jerusalem, so are the Pharisees and Sadducees. No doubt these men were of the Sanhedrin council. The disciples (at hand) ‘the kingdom of heaven’ rejoice, their “King is coming”! And the (available) kingdom of God rejects Him. However, the LORD rebukes the leaders who seek to silence the disciples at hand. “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!” “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” Luke 19:40.

Is the Triumphal Sunday important? How stubborn is a heart of unbelief? Is it not more DEAD than a stone lying on the ground, waiting for the LORD’s coming, Romans 8:18-22 – For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

The unbelieving men, women, and children of the world are held in the bondage of ‘death’. Everyone who abides in the world apart from God abides in DEATH. As scripture reveals it will be more tolerable for a rock in the day of judgment than someone who was originally created in the image and likeness of God, to reject that likeness (Jesus), for the lies of religion.
