Luke 18:15-17 – Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

Of the other gospels, Mark seems the most compassionate, and Matthew does not give the warning of receiving the kingdom of God as a child. Children, especially children that are still infants, I would say less than nine months are not normally introduced to the harshness of the world. The response to people and the world around them is still a response of FAITH. As we know; faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. Infant children have a pure faith, yet the sinful nature of infant children can be seen, when they are hungry or lacking care.

This brings up an important point that we ought not to miss. Faith! Faith in all of mankind is critically destroyed when discipline is left – UNCHECKED in children of a young age! Someone once said, that if a child is not taught loving discipline by the age of six months, that when saved they will experience problems with conforming to the image and likeness of Christ in the later years of his or her life. The apostle Paul in Romans 12:1-2, which is a very familiar verse for the children of God states this.

“I beseech (urge) you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies, a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service (rational). And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

We will never lose our salvation or relationship to Christ; we have become a child of God the Father by faith in the gospel of God unto salvation upon all and to all who believe. We are justified by the Power of God at the moment we believe, and then we enter into the process of sanctification, God has provided His written Word to direct His children the personal responsibility to show themselves approved – 2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

There are many factors that direct the child of God back to a childlike faith in Him, Prayer, Fellowship, the Church family, and God’s Word. Yet, of these the main factor is the Power of God the Holy Spirit who directs and guides us into all Truth Eph 4:21 – if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: (permit the little children to come to Me). Therefore, I urge all of us to be diligent in the one tool that God has provided to each of us to seek a child-like faith in the things that God has prepared for those who love Him. God’s Word!
