SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 12:54-59
Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so, it is. “And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. “Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time? Make Peace with Your Adversary. “Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right? “When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make every effort along the way to settle with him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison “I tell you, you shall not depart from there till you have paid the very last mite.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
Luke 12:49-59 are not parables, these are snippets of Truth regarding the first coming of Messiah. Warnings to the nation that, because of being rejected by the nation desolate, that Christ is leaving His chosen peoples and that suffering, not only for Him as He becomes the sacrifice for the sin of the world, but His departure would also bring suffering for the Jew as they will be disbursed from their homeland in the future. Chapter 13 will continue this dialogue with the crowd (Luke 12:1).

Discerning the times in which we live is as relevant today as it was in those days. As the first coming of Christ draws to a close, the Jews were busy discerning seasons and the weather in general. Weather patterns have not changed, most showers and rain come from the west and guess what, the south wind always brings warm weather. Are we not like the hypocrite of Jesus day? We are so concerned about our moment in time that we lay aside our eternal destiny which is everlasting.

Judging – is all judging sin? Jesus clearly reveals that we can and ought to judge righteously, this judging does not carry a penalty of sin, it carries the gift of reward. Standing up for Righteousness does not mean to be opposed to your ‘adversary’ in self-righteousness. It means to settle disputes with people before these are beyond this point and civil action is required. Civil action always leads to a judgment that leads to punishment and in a civil court, who knows which way this will turn out, especially those who are the children of God.
