SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 22:41-46
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
There are many things that Jesus has done or spoken up to this point that we have not covered; The washing of the disciple’s/apostle’s feet, the disciples argue about who is the greatest, the Passover/supper. Judas plots to betray His LORD. All of these events happened earlier on Thursday, these are also important, and we will cover these in deeper detail after this week of sacrifice. My hope and intentions are to describe the intense moments in time as Jesus prepares His body for the sacrifice of the SINS of the WORLD; yours and mine.

Hebrews 10:5ff – Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin, You had no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—In the volume of the book it is written of Me— To do Your will, O God.’” Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (See also Psalm 40:6-8 and Micah 6:6-8.)

How does God, prepare His own human body to die for the sin of the world? There is preparation for a military person to expect that they may die for their country, but there is also the expectation of survival and with that, the military man continues to move forward. Some of us would say this about Jesus also, but this is true. No, it would not be true. In Luke 21 we read earlier that the LORD Jesus, on Thursday evening prayed to be delivered from this sacrifice. The answer from His Father was immediate and no He would not be delivered.

Think about this in your soul, the answer from God the Father was given and immediately, an angel appeared and STRENGTHEN Jesus. Earnestly, Jesus continued in prayer, the intensity of His human flesh was consumed with grief to the point of shedding drops of blood. All of the fluid in a normal perspiration moment had been exhausted, in other words; there was nothing left to shed except – drops of blood. The human body of Messiah desired SURVIVAL, while the Messiah, said to His Father – “nevertheless, not my human will, but Yours be done!”
