SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:  Luke 9:10-17

And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. But when the multitudes knew [it], they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, "Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here” But He said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people." For there were about five thousand men. Then He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of fifty." And they did so and made them all sit down. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave [them] to the disciples to set before the multitude. So, they all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah

Of all of the events revealed to us in the gospels: The feeding of the 5,000 men, plus women and children is one of the most exciting events recorded.

Other events recorded by the writers; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John record John the Baptizer’s ministry. The baptism of Jesus, which is the inauguration of Jesus the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world [Psa 2:7-8], The feeding of the 5,000 in the spring of AD29, and not until the last five days of the ministry of Christ on earth do all four gospels record the events of our LORD together. Each writer has something to say about the LORD’s resurrection and the challenge of Christ to His apostles and disciples, see Luke 24:46-49.

All four accounts say the same thing, and the left-overs may have been enough for breakfast for those who spent the night. One thing about the writers is that each record, reveals that Jesus lifted His eyes to heaven, blessed the food and gave it to his disciples to set before each group. John states that there were twelve baskets of fragments left over. With just 5,000 men that would be 100 baskets, 200 if there were 5,000 women and children. Our human mind can comprehend the glory of God in this moment of time in history. However, Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for and the EVIDENCE of things not seen. [Hebrews 11:1]
