A Devotional – SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (82)
SCRIPTURE REFERENCES: Hebrews 1:1-3(KJV) – The Eternal Plan of God – Jesus
Luke 3:21-22 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
ALL of Scripture is IMPORTANT for STUDY, in the harmony of the gospels we might want to pick up on this one important truth. When something is very important about the life of Jesus, all four of the gospels will have something to say and thus it is so with the day that the Ministry of the Christ and John the Baptizer. See Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3 and John 1. These references are worth the read, do not just take my word for it.
SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES: Jesus, the Christ of God/Messiah
If you own a good ‘reference Bible’ you will find a good deal of information regarding Jesus in a section called “Harmony of the Gospels”. Well it may be worded differently, but in the one that I use The Broadman & Holman Publishers this section cross-references all four gospels. Also, it provides dates that concur with C.I. Scofield.
Now, this is important – most of us know that a harmony of the gospels exist, some of us may even take a reference or two from it. Others will determine that this is just another man-made tool and not look at these references at all, and yet others will say… “let the scholar’s study this as I do not have the time.” Over the years I could have camped out in all of these. Shame! For shame I say! It is a good tool, use it.
From age two (after the visit of the Maji) to age thirty the life of Jesus Christ was not public. With the exception that when Jesus was twelve years old, His parents went to the Passover feast in Jerusalem, (as they did every year). Upon returning home, there was a three-day period when He could not be found by His parents. As you may recall, He was in the Temple conversing with the doctors of law (Scribes).
I personally believe that Jesus was twelve years old in 8 AD, we do not hear much more about Jesus the Son of the Living God until AD 26. But there is another exception. Luke explains in Luke 2:51-52, after 18 years of silence that Jesus was obedient to His parents and increased in favor with GOD the Father and man. Jesus lived most of His childhood in Nazareth, with annual trips to Jerusalem and one trip to Egypt.
