The Devotional - Written Word - The Revelation of God

The Devotional

Psalm 19:7-11: The law of the LORD; PERFECT, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD; SURE, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD; RIGHT, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the LORD, PURE, enlightening the eyes, the fear of the LORD; CLEAN, enduring forever. The judgments of the LORD; TRUE. RIGHTEOUS altogether. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them, GREAT REWARD.

COMMENT: Many versions of the written Word of God have added words to help the flow of scripture when being read. For example; in our test this morning, verse 7 would read from the New King James Version as follows. "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

While this is okay for reading, it may not be okay for meditation and study, allow me to explain! If we were just reading the text, the italic word is for the flow mood to READ ONLY, but if I place the text in the emphatic mood as I believe it is intended, then I am drawn to meditation. Notice.

Verse 7a, The law of the LORD, perfect converting the soul! Our soul is where God the Holy Spirit meets and dwells in us. He is the One who "restores" our soul, and it is within the 'law' of God that the Spirit of God works in restoring our soul to the image and likeness of God. Verse 7b, The testimonies of the LORD, sure, making wise the simple. See Psalm 111:7 and Psalm 119:130.

Through verse eleven we can enjoy the Written Word of God to a greater depth, when we allow the emphatic Word of God to reassure our soul that God's Will for His children's soul is always to "restore, sure, right, pure, clean, and true." Do not forget this too, these six result of God's Word in our soul "altogether are righteous." These six results in one's soul; "God loves and the seventh is Christ in us, He alone is our righteousness and confident hope of Glory. This is the antidote for Proverbs 6:16-19.
